Saka MotM Player Ratings as Sam Sinks

A very hard game to get motivated for but it was nice to get their manager relegated I must say.   Shame Pepe or Willian couldn't have produced one of their worldies on Thursday.

Leno- Should have save their goal but moved the ball faster-6

Chambers- Is not a RB but supported Pepe well enough-6
 
Holding- Not really tested.  Lost his man for a chance for them in the first half-6
 
Gabriel- Should have come out to their attacker faster for their goal, otherwise dealt with their high balls well-6
 
Saka- MOTM.  Creative, and good crosses throughout.  Switched positions with ease-8
 
Elneny- Negative passing again.  Refuses to pass forward-5
 
Ceballos- His head must be spinning after games, as he spends most of the game spinning and not doing much.  His lack of pace for their goal was shocking-5
 
Pepe- Great goal but didn't do much else-6
 
Smith Rowe- Keeps passing backwards and slowed down attacks.  Extra point for the goal-6
 
Willian- Great free kick and got more involved-7
 
Martinelli-  Couldn't get involved and couldn't hold the ball agaimst their physical defenders. Deserved to play the 90 but Arteta made 1 of his earliest ever subs-5
 
Laca- Not involved-5
 
Tierney- Got beaten far too easily in the air and looked slow and sluggish which is understandable-5
 
Partey- NA

Thought Willian did ok 👌 tonight.
There where worse.

Tierney isn't a good defender.

ESR took goal well but he isn't anywher near like he was form wise.

Saka best player by a mile 1st half.
Not so effective after moving position when Tierney came on.

Feel for Martinelli.
He's on a loser with Arteta.

Martellini looked really lost today playing centre forward. Looks like the special training Arteta prepared for Martellini to help him play CF did not work well. He could not hold up the ball and ended up losing possession often. Will need to work on his upper body strength. He had little success around the box in combo plays with the other Arsenal players - will need more games at CF to build that understanding. And he did not know how to make himself available for thru passes when playing on the shoulders of the opposing defender. Good thing he was not caught offside at all. I think Nketiah and Balogun are more naturally suited at the CF position as Martellini's strength is making diagonal runs at opposing defenders at pace and drawing fouls in the box. Might have to rethink his longer term role especially with Laca likely to be sold in the summer.

Good ratings GS.

I thought Chambers was very tidy and created the space for Pepes
goal. Worth 7

And I’d give Saka a 9. Thought he was outstanding starting at LB.
Should have started there in the final.

Him and ESR are going to be huge for us in the future.

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Martinelli was terrible. He doesn't have the height or physique to play as the main striker. He is an inside forward/AM or winger. It might work if we played with him as a second striker alongside Laca up front.
