Arsenal Sign Rawandan and Other Youth

Arsenal recently completed the signing of Rwandan-born Norwegian winger George Lewis after he impressed during a two week trial. The coach who gave the now-20 year old winger his debut spoke of his surprise at the move, at the time saying "I’m delighted for George, but I’m also a little surprised. He’s nearly 20 and never been near the national teams and it’s not like he’s gone off the radar here during his development."

Yesterday the Gunners also signed 19 year old midfielder Tim Akinola. Born in England but also eligible to play for Nigeria, he was recently released by Huddersfield. Apparently this signing has come as a result of him impressing our staff via video analysis, and not following a trial period. I watched a couple of videos of him yesterday and he certainly looks combative. The videos were basically compilations of him snapping into aggressive, accurate slide tackles.

Two slightly unusual signings on paper but I'd expect more like this at U23 level. As a large number of youngsters were in-and-around the first team last season numbers were somewhat depleted. A number of youngsters have already sealed loan moves, and there could be more temporary/ permanent departures.
