Luiz redemption MotM Players Ratings v City

By Matty Sadler

Wow wow wow what a win. Sterling missed a couple of sitters but otherwise I thought we defended excellently. How have we beaten Liverpool and City in a week!? How can the Kronke's not want to invest in Arteta!? She Wore She Wore She Wore a Yellow ribbon in the merry month of August We are the mighty Arsenal and we're going to Wembley!

Ratings

Martinez - 8. Class again.

Mustafi - 7. Shaky moments early on but okay overall. Almost scored.
Luiz - 9 MotM. Superb again I thought. Dealt with everything. Real leader.
Tierney - 8. Looks great at LCB. Reads the game well and snuffs out danger.

Bellerin - 6. Okay but had a few iffy moments in the first half, the worst being that careless pass.
Ceballos - 7. Didn't think he started off that well but grew into the game.
Xhaka - 9. Brilliant all-action display. Blocked a De Bruyne shot well in the first half. Another real leader.
Maitland-Niles - 8. Before kick off I was wondering if AMN over Saka was the right call, but he was excellent defensively. Going forward I think he suffered being on his wrong foot, but that's me being picky.

Pepe - 7. Much, much better than against Liverpool. Looked sharper, involved. Wasn't just stuck out on the right. Brilliant ball for the opener.
Lacazette - 7. Worked very hard. Ball stuck to him and his passing to the wide areas was better.
Aubameyang - 9. Responded to missing a big chance early on with two top, top quality goals, which came after me and my mate had an argument about whether he was world class or not. Great player.

Subs:

Willock - 6. Put himself about.
Torreira - 5. Got involved.
Holding - N/A. Not on long.
Kolasinac - N/A. Not on long.

Xhaka brilliant
Luiz brilliant . If only he could turn out more of them perfmonces.
And another great performance from Martinez. I'm sure the defence look more comfortable with him in goal.

A brilliant rear guard action. They had one shot on target

I really like AMN.

16 shots with 1 on target.
Arsenal 4 shots-4 on target.

I'd agree about AMN defensively not so mush offensively, where he appears to me to be gangly and wrong footed. As Matty said he was playing on the left which is not his favoured side.
Hopefully playing regular in a good team setup, he will find his offensive feet

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, thereโ€™s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Arsenal fc

Letโ€™s keep making history

I'm not sure he will be a regular when Arteta gets the players he wants in.

Luiz had repaid his 2020/21 contract extension.

Decision lies in AMN's hands as to whether he wants to stay to continue his development under Arteta.

Aubameyang and Lacazette?
If both of them are happy in London and playing with together with this team, there is no reason why they would want to leave as long as both parties agreed on the financial terms of contract extension.

Mustafi?
He deserves a new extension as much as for his experience and "never-say-die" mentality, always bouncing back after a set-back.

Sokratis, Kolasinac and Mustafi had more or less indicated that they will see out their contract at Arsenal FC.
Arteta should stop moaning on transfer funds and get on with the job of polishing these turds as much as he can. All of them have a role to play as squad members.

Our growing spine for 2020/21 season:
#1 - Martinez or Leno
#2 - Luiz
#3 - Tierney

#4 - Xhaka
#5 - Ceballos

#6 - Lacazette
#7 - Aubameyang

Rest of the youngsters needed to understand lots of hardwork ahead of them before they can slot in seamless to be a regular by 2021/22.

Without Laca and Auba, it will too much of a handicap for Arteta to develop another potent Forward-Line during pre-season.

I would rather see Aubameyang leave on a Bosman in summer 2021 ratehr than sell him now.

"The idea is to be more unpredictable every year and be more difficult for the opponents to stop and nullify what we want to do. Thatโ€™s what we have now, especially at the back and in the midfield the options we have, to open up the spaces, we have many more options than we had last year.โ€ Mikel Arteta

There is no question of letting him go on a bosman.. Arteta will find the solution with formation tweaks.. He has shown enough in 6 months to show that he can change his formations and strategy to suit his players and accentuate their strengths.

Give Aubameyang the 250k he wants with a appearances and performance based contact.

I believe Aubameyang is ready to sign the ta thing. Lacazette is coming in to his own as well but we have had great performances even from Nketiah and Martinelli.

No matter who comes or leaves, just get the feeling Arteta has the ability to get them playing well.

Sorry wrote the ratings kinda quickish as I'd been out watching the game with the lads and was understandably in a very jolly mood.

Really hard to pick between Luiz and Xhaka for MOTM for me - both were excellent. Aubameyang showed why he is top drawer. Martinez, Tierney and AMN were excellent. Pepe looked much improved.

Agree with Flava - I really like AMN. He has successfully pocketed some of the leagues big name attackers this season (Traore, Mahrez). Seems odd after rumours this week that he wants to leave due to their not being a 'role' for him, he gets started in an absolutely massive game in terms of what competitions we're in next season and what our transfer budget is, and plays a blinder. Arteta spoke about him after the game, saying he's been excellent in training and has changed his mentality and mindset. AMN or Bellerin? We need to think carefully.

Bellerin still has the edge in terms of passing and decision making in the final third.. His first touch from cross field balls is still exquisite.

But AMN can displace in all other areas. Crossing is better with his right foot and Bellerin doesn't have a great cross either and makes too many mistakes these days.

Just feel that even before his injury Bellerin had lost his pace. Maybe I'm being harsh because he's come back from a big injury, but he just seems very, very average.

We have one RB too many and I don't want us to make the wrong decision.

Good sign when Arteta hugged him and lifted AMN off his feet.
It is really up to AMN as to whether he wants to stay or leave for newer pasture to further his career by playing regular 1st team football.

He is still young and my advice to him is to be patience and continue to develop under Arteta till he hits his peak between 24 to 27 year old with more lucrative offers coming his way to entice him to leave Arsenal then.

Bad feeling that Sanllehi/Edu may want to cash in with a 20-mil plus offer to pay for Auba's new contract.

We have lost Bellerin go. Soares can do all Bellerin can and AMN cash be his under study.. Would prefer a Tierney like RB.. But not a priority position after what I've seen from soares.

Priority is still signing up Aubameyang, Ceballos for some continuity and really finding getting more Nketiah, Nelson, Saka, Pepe and Martinelli.

Another midfielder by moving on ozil, guendouzi, Bellerin and elneny should be the transfer priority.

CazOnARola

Yeah merl, same feeling. I feel they will sell AMN, guendouzi and balogan. And invest that money in Aubameyang and lacazette.

Cannot be criticized a lot either as we may not get a lot for Bellerin if he was put up in the market. Soares looks like the first choice RWB now.

Itโ€™s the Soares deal that didnโ€™t really make sense to me. I donโ€™t think it wouldโ€™ve taken much to turn AMN into a RB that could challenge Bellerin.

AMN always played better against the bigger teams. Almost as though itโ€™s a concentration issue with him. Last night I felt he was the first one of our players to get his foot on the ball and started playing after we were under the cosh initially

Soares is offensively better than AMN although it may not be apparent. From whatever i have seen, he moved the ball forward quickly as well, not as well as monreal and Tierney, but much better than Kolasinac, AMN and Bellerin. I think most teams have better full backs and CMs than us talent and all around abilities wise aa will as their decision making.

We have to work extra hard as an 11 because some ppl take a long time and still don't make the correct paint decisions on the field.

Have seen a dramatic change in this in the past month after the restart.. Haven't seen an arsenal team passing forward confidently for almost 3/4 years.

Always has been a concentration problem with him I think. Sounds like Arteta has been really drilling him though and he's getting positive results.
