Three Less Cones - Do We Need Closure?

Not pants at all

Arsene has had one of his best International weeks ever, instead of Pat and him having to put out 10 cones for training they only had to put out seven. This was due to the fact that RvP was having a baby (well his wife was) so he was allowed leave by Holland, and that Gibbs and Walcott got back early from the U21s.

No doubt RvP will still be pants in front of goal as he has been kept awake all week by the new bairn (yes I know he gives lots of assists, I would like him to poke home a few more of those easy chances this team provides). There again he is often pants in front of goal, except when he score and then he is great.

This match might have been about revenge, however, allegedly, Tiny, wouldn't hurt a puppy, Taylor is out with injury, and Eduardo is struggling to find fitness on the long road to recovery. When a player recovers from a serious injury it often takes a long time to get back to the same level of fitness, and the recovery is interrupted by a series of niggling injuries.

Do we need closure against Birmingham? Well it would be nice to stuff them 5-0 - but although they stopped our onslaught on the title two seasons ago I don't feel that they alone explain the implosion that occurred after that draw.

Hleb's ice cream habit and injuries to Sagna and Flamini could explain a lot more. Hleb's decision to go made after showboating in Italy did as much damage to team morale as the injury to Eduardo. Long may he run round in circles in Stuttgart.

Nonetheless if Arsenal are to prove they are serious contenders they will need to get more than the two points they garnered against the bluenoses that season.

Birmingham are a poor team away from home, they have lost three out of their four away games. International break or not Arsenal will have to get back into the momentum before the lull. The Gunners have scored 24 goals in seven games, 14 of them in three games at home, I am sure Birmingham are relishing this visit. I read somewhere that it is the biggest tally for seven games in Premiership history.

What is more the tally has been achieved after going a goal down on at least one occasion. This team can motor when it puts its mind to it, and with three games in a row without having to leave London - West Ham away and Spuds at home it is time to step on the accelerator.

There will be quite a few player's still missing including: Bendtner (groin), Clichy (ankle), Denilson (back), Djourou (knee), Eduardo (thigh); Diaby is doubtful and Almunia could possibly return. Vela is still mid Atlantic; but that still leaves a possible squad of:

Mannone, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Fabregas, Ramsey, Song, Rosicky, Walcott, van Persie, Arshavin, Fabianski, Silvestre, Eboue, Gibbs, Wilshere.

That should be more than enough to see off Birmingham.

Be careful about criticising RVPs performance in front of goal. I do it at least once a week and everyone jumps down me throat.

With no other recognised forward in the squad, he had better have his shooting boots on.

Anyone going?

Its like Ray Parlour, I used to moan about him and he would get a hat trick.

Its hope its going to be be nice and cold tomorrow.

I dont like football until its cold.

Im 'upstairs' tomorrow where it can be at its coldest.

I expect it will be a thoroughly cold and miserable day, a proper, ground out 1-0 victory.

What block you in?

Block 122, or block 'last minute part timer' as they should rename it.

Yes mr rockstaar i didnt mean i would be getting cold, my mink coat would make that an impossibility anyway. What i meant was i like to see working class people feeling cold as it makes my matchday experience more authentic as i watch from the platinum club restaurant.
