Will Arsenal keep up five goal average?

So far this season matches involving Arsenal are averaging five goals a game; with 17 for and 8 against. Last Saturday was the first clean sheet in the Premiership this season. Whilst the attack is good the defence is poor. However it is not clear, yet, whether the goal rush is peculiar to Arsenal.

Liverpool have conceded nine, and the two Manchester's six apiece. Arsenal are the league's leading goal scorers on 17, a goal more than Liverpool who have played an extra game.

Meanwhile Fulham fans have seen a far less goals, eleven in total. Their defence is little better than Arsenal's having conceded seven; the attack is even poorer scoring only four. They are yet to hit the form of last season having lost three of their five games so far.

Arsenal have lost the last two on the road, and lost two out of the last three games at the Cottage. Arsenal fans are not used to losing at Fulham, and these defeats have been seen, by some, as proof that Arsenal is in decline.

The Gunners first team squad has had the week off, apart from training, as did Fulham's. Both clubs played second strings in the midweek Carling Cup. Beating Wigan and keeping a clean sheet should have lifted Arsenal morale, but can the team keep two clean sheets in a row? I wouldn't put money on it.

Almunia still has the longest chest infection in history (over 3 foot long), with Fabianski still recovering from an operation the choice of second keeper is limited to 3rd and 4th choice. Arshavin will be available, but Walcott will not. Denilson remains on the injured list, as does Nasri and Djourou. RvP is expected to pass a fitness test.

It's a match that Arsenal should win, but to paraphrase Alan Hansen, if Man Utd play well they win, if Chelsea play well they win, if Liverpool  play well they win, if Arsenal play well you don't know what will happen.  The Gunners have a CL match on Tuesday, so Wenger will have to pick his team with that in mind.
