Owen for Arsenal?

Tonights London Evening Standard has a massive back page exclusive claimimg that Wenger is out to sign Owen. The article is signed by Raoul Simons.

He claims that Owen is the second great calibre player targeted by Wenger. He claims that Owen has a £12 million trigger in his contract, and wants European football.  Simons believes that Owen would prefer a real chance at winning the Premiership, and to play in the Champions League, while staying at Newcastle means a season of rebuilding work under Roeder. A move also means a chance to partner Thierry Henry, who apparently the world and his wife want to partner.

However there is no source, or evidence, given in the article, just a repeat of the fact that Wenger said that he admired Owen a year ago. But it must be added that Arsene has never admired the fee or the wages.

My feeling is that all this is very unlikely.

Ashley Cole has also stated he expects to run out at the Emirates next season, and Fernabache deny they are about to sign Sol Campbell. Well the silly season has started in earnest. But one question unanswered is who is the second "player of great calibre"?
