Wengali – admits bringing in the shrink

Arsenal Wenger has admitted that he has brought in a psychologist to the players. Wenger confirmed in the Arsenal magazine that a psychologist was brought in not especially for the Real Madrid match, but that he had been thinking about it for quite a while.

" We have a lot of very, very young players, and I think they need a lot of attention, because their education is very important. To play at their age, under big pressure, sometimes can create stress and problems. So that's why I decided to bring in the psychologist. It's more of a long term plan, rather than just for a game or two".

Wenger who pioneered a lot of changes to the footballers diet, special warming up and warming down exercises has now added psychology to his armoury. No doubt other teams will follow, but they should remember that the main key is highly skilled players. A psychologist cannot turn a donkey into a gazelle, or a giraffe into a cheetah. Though talking of cheetahs perhaps they could make old horse face into an honest player.
