David Bentley has been crticised for not putting in enough effort by his manager at Norwich. Somehow it doesn't surprise me. Only a few weeks ago according to Sky Bentley was prepared to leave Arsenal for first team football.
I wrote then "Of course it may not be true, but similar noises were made by Jermaine Pennant when he was at Leeds.I can understand that the excitement of playing every week must provide a buzz that affects a players ability to think long term. However Leeds relegation had a calming affect on Jermaine and you can now watch him on Arsenal Plus expressing his love for all things Arsenal. If Bentley has really got the talent he thinks he has, and thats hell of a lot of talent, then his turn will come. Ashley and Kolo made it, so can he if he is prepared to be patient and work at it. "
One of the myths put out by the press is that foreign players are keeping English players out, another is that Wenger doesn't think much of them. I don't see foreign players or a foreign manager keeping Bentley out at Norwich.
I sincerely hope that Bentley's form recovers, but I can't help thinking that he needs to say less to the press, and about his role at Norwich, and concentrate on the more mundane task of working hard at training.
