Martinelli MotM Player Ratings v City

Arsenal 0 Man City 3

Leno - 6. Conceded 3, 2 of which were excellent finishes, and made a good save to prevent a KDB hat-trick. Distribution wasn't great though.

Maitland-Niles - 4. Can't work out if he doesn't read danger or just chooses not to acknowledge it as he's always so laid back. Rubbish.
Chambers - 3. Lost Jesus easily for the first and never improved. Nearly cost us a 4th in the second half. Shame because at times this season he hasn't always been as bad as those around him.
Sokratis - 5. Didn't think he was as bad as he has been this season but he wasn't great either. Never looks comfortable on the ball.
Kolasinac - 3. Poor on the first two goals, and that's after he's looked alright recently. Not much better otherwise. Adds to our full back injury crisis.

Guendouzi - 4. I'll always like him because he doesn't hide and tries to get on the ball, but he should've been booked for diving, got nowhere near KDB and honestly at times it was like no one was in midfield.
Torreira - 4. Tried to put himself about and look busy but again it was like having no one in midfield.

Pepe - 5. Showed good feet at times with tricks and skill, without being particularly effective. Unfortunately games like this we need more of an effort defensively.
Ozil - 4. I'm sure I'll be told I'm wrong but I thought that was a feeble display and I'm not sure why he was complaining about going off.
Martinelli - 7. Almost got us off to the perfect start. His attitude is always spot on and certainly shows up the senior players.

Aubameyang - 4. You sort of knew how this one was going to go before a ball was kicked. Hardly had a touch and was rarely involved.

Subs:

Saka - 6. Did well at left back, which is reassuring as we'll probably need him there for a while.
Smith Rowe - 6. Much livelier than the bloke he replaced. Hope he stays fit and we get to see more of him as he's a great talent.
Willock - 4. Came on late. Tried to get on the ball but like Chambers almost cost us a fourth.

The first 90 seconds of this match perfectly summed us up as a club.

As expected to be fair but City were in complete control and, as good as their three goals were, we really made things easy for them. We're down to the bare bones in the full back positions. Only positive I thought was the three teenagers, Martinelli in particular.

Auba and Laca are eying the exit door believe me this is not going to get better any time soon

That is one sure way to ruin a young promising winger. They need to promote an actual full back from the youth teams instead.

It didnt ruin Ashley Cole

Arteta on his team's first away victory at a club above them in the Premiership since September 2015 at Leicester.

Except Ashley had Tony Adams teaching him how to defend.

Yep. We need to play ppl who want to be here. They just pass to each other so that their numbers are good while their agents get them offers.

True which is why Wenger didnt teach defence, but they could use a coach instead

Martinelli should have tried to find players to pass on all 3 occasions.

I know he's going so ppl will overlook these things.

He does pass to saka though so maybe its just payback for Aubameyang and lacazette only passing to each other and ignoring others in scoring positions. Could easily be just that.

I thought he had a good game, especially as midfield was delivering so little

That he did, but our standards are very low currently. I don't want him to become like Sanchez. I have noticed it from the first day that he does not always pass to ppl in better positions, but recently realized it's not the case of that person is saka, Nelson, etc. Its only when it's the seniors like auba, xhaka, ozil, Lacazette, so hopefully it's just good old fashioned prejudice rather than a lack of vision.
