I should have been at the Arsenal AGM today, I won a proxy ticket to attend, and then this rotten government launched its attack on the poor, old, young and disabled. Students at the college where I work, many who support the Arsenal, will be priced out of university. University will be for the rich, not for the kids that populate the estates of Islington, Camden and Hackney.

So Wednesday night I went to Downing Street to jeer the Bullingdon Club and its Lib Dem mates, and lunch time instead of attending my first AGM I stood shoulder to shoulder with students and staff protesting against the cuts. There are far more important things than football.

Things have been so hectic because of the spending review that over the last couple of day the Gooners at work have hardly had time to discuss the wonderful match on Tuesday, and I haven’t had time to report it. There is no need to report it now, although we could still argue which was the best goal. Perhaps it was Eduardo’s, everyone wanted him to score, and when he did it was a great goal, and at 5 goals up everyone could be generous and cheer.

Shaktar were a poor shadow of the team we saw all those years ago at Wembley, and we didn’t wait until the last minute to know we had won. It was a funny game, tedious in patches, although Arsenal always in control, and then punctuated by great goals, and I include Songs in that. He chipped it in (a couple of feet high) like a skilful golfer getting out of the rough.

What a delight to see Wilshere and Fabregas play together, if only Jack wasn’t suspended, I would be confident that a team with Jack and Cesc playing could beat City. We often can’t beat the big teams even if Cesc is playing, and without him its definite we cannot.

 But here is the big question, can we beat all and sundry if Jack and Cesc play together? Unfortunately we will have to wait a few more weeks to find out. Meanwhile Jack has just demonstrated he can be a hard man in midfield, and silky smooth in front of goal. As long as he becomes as cunning as Scholes, and loved by a doting English press, we could be looking at a home produced Brady or George. It is most unlikely we will win the league this season, but with Jack and Cesc playing together we will never get bored.
