This a big big opportunity for Spurs, and I doubt if Jol will make the mistake Liverpool made of putting out a weak team. He knows there are only two teams in London, Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves.
Indeed as Spurs want to charge top rates for this game, and Arsenal doesn’t, I can only assume that they intend to field a strong team. Surely they are not out to shortchange their loyal and long suffering fans?
Imagine the excitement over there, their first chance of a trophy since ---- er well since Graham won the League Cup with them. But don’t mention it. It’s their final – a chance to end 46 years of hurt (surely the final is the final? Ed).
So they will want to give our reserves a hard time and prove they are the second best team in North London. Meanwhile Wenger believes that if the youngsters could win at Liverpool then they can win anywhere. Therefore he will not change his policy of playing youth in the Carling.
As usual Wenger will play cloak and dagger with naming the squad, but we do know Diaby will play, as will Walcott and Aliadiere. Usually a senior member of the squad plays alongside the youth. Will it be Toure? He is indomitable.
Dont forget to enter your predictions on the table.
Below are the possible squads for the first leg, which is live on Sky.
Arsenal possible squad: Almunia, Hoyte, Toure, Djourou, Connolly, Traore, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, Julio Baptista, Aliadiere, Poom, Merida, Lansbury, Randall, Adebayor, Senderos, Flamini.
Tottenham possible squad: Robinson, Cerny, Alnwick, Chimbonda, Lee, Dawson, Gardner, Assou-Ekotto, Zokora, Davids, Lennon, Keane, Berbatov, Defoe, Murphy, Ghaly, Malbranque, Huddlestone, Ziegler.
