What is needed to win the league?

DJArse posted these comments on the forum looking back to last season and looking forward to the coming one. Cech looks like a good aquisition but is there more to be done? DJs views follow:
The first part of the season was very frustrating as it seemed like Groundhog Day - starting the season with obvious gaps in the squad that everyone recognised except the Manager.
Sanchez is obviously our player of the season for the way he carried the team for months.
I think overall there was little improvement really - the standard across the rest of the Premiership dropped, as the Champions League results proved.
Some players made significant breakthroughs - Bellerin, Coquelin, Chambers. And I think Gabriel will prove a good buy. Wilshere's return to form is promising.
We need to decide what we are realistically aiming for - to win the premiership is one thing; to win in Europe is quite another.
Even to win the premiership, we would need to improve significantly as the other tops will strengthen too over the summer. To win in Europe we would need some world-class signings - I cant see that happening.
I think there remain real gaps:
* We need another holding and/or defensive midfielder - Coquelin is good and huge credit to him for the breakthrough this year but he reminds me of Flamini when he partnered Fabregas - he was not that good but happened to be the perfect foil for Fabregas. Maybe Bielik is that player but it is risky to assume that as he has had no playing time at the top level this season.
* We need a world class striker alongside Sanchez - Giroud has improved but is not at that level - nor is Wellbeck.
What is less clear is which players may break through next season - Akpom, Hayden, Gnabry, Bielik, Crowley or Iwobi ? Will Diaby stay fit - the odds don't look hopeful. Zelalem seems to have gone backwards in his development.
I don't see any future for Sanogo, Campbell,Miyaichi, Wellington.
Wenger did just enough this season to keep the fans happy but will need some shrewd work in the transfer market this summer to avoid becoming the source of fans' frustration again.

99 percent of the time the best players are the are part of the team that wins the league and attracting those players is key. Not so easy when u have chelsea, utd and city to contend with.
Our only advantage is a settled squad and continuity (which chelsea have too).
Benzema/Cavani/etc and we are there even without a DM. We dont need a DM playing lesser teams at home. Caz-Ramsey is fine
I believe this was what Arsene said about Dennis Bergkamp after winning his first double in 1997/98 season.

Somebody PLEASE tell this to wenger before it's too late.
Its the same for chelsea if Hazard/Terry get injured for like 3-4 months. Chelsea wont win the league if Hazard has a long term injury.
The key for them has always been keeping 90 percent of their best players through out the season.
Coquelin is one of the best DMs in the league. We wont win the league if he is injured for 3 months and his replacement say william carvalho plays there for that time. The quality of his replacement will determine if we finish 2 or 4th.
But without our best players fit for a majority of the season and esp big games, we wont win the league. Its going to be that tight. Wenger will have to be smart and rotate players properly since we have many places where players are at nearly the same level, even if they arent world class. They need to be rotated intelligently which his biggest challenge with everyone fit.
Its the same with city and aguero. Liverpool > sturridge.

never because he is not good at it
Previously he had to over Play player s because we had very poor neck up players. This year he had enough quality back ups. So much so that flamini rosicky don't make the bench and rosicky is very a decent back up player

I would've been more certain if we had a striker like Higuain and a back-up dm like Kondogbia, but since we can't have them now, I think we're in the best possible shape to challenge for the title.

Too much one-dimensional short passes without intermixing long and accurate lobs into the box and behind defenders for Walcott and Alexis to chase them.
Stop crossing from the flanks 100% of the time and more cutting into centre by FB to catch opponents off-balanced.
Whenever Monreal, Debuchy and OX drove towards the by-lines, WHU players were standing all in line waiting fro the crosses to come in.
Walcott is wasted when playing short passes without anyone giving him a chance to chase down long passes.
Change the tactics or else prepare for another long slog to retain TOp-4 status.

Yeah his lack of pace will end up in injury or red cards, he has always been good but we just need a little bit better than 'good'
