As Shalke’s second goal went in I couldn’t get that Talking Heads number out of my head, it really should be the club song. For those who don’t  know the words here is the first verse and chorus, but reading the lyrics can't beat listening to it. It really sums up the position Arsenal is now in.

I am sure Arsenal were surprised as the rest of us to find themselves 2-0 up after only 26 minutes. True they were two very good goals, but I doubt if Arsenal will find any team in the Premiership prepared to gift two goals in such a sloppy fashion as Schalke did, apart from themselves that is.  At 2-0 up it was possible to believe the impossible, remember the old days when Arsenal went abroad and wiped the floor with any team that dared to beat them at home.

But only the wilfully blind would have failed to see Schalke’s comeback on its way, Arsenal could have three points, and ended up being lucky to finish with one. Yes we would all have settled for one point before the match started, but a two goal lead, but don’t forget this outfit throws away four goal leads with impunity. Yes Arsenal can still qualify, and probably will, but it will probably be in second place and an immediate tie against a team that will knock them out first go. We're on a road to nowhere, maybe the team is in a rollercoaster on that road, so it might seem quite exciting at times.

But as exciting as it is being on a rollercoaster the fact it is that it goes nowhere. Wenger finally allowed Theo to start a game, denying it has anything to do with his contract, that may or may not be true, but Theo seemed pretty grumpy at the end of the match. Directing questions on the issue back to the manager. Arteta, standing next to Theo,  eyebrows nearly  shot up in horror, except they were firmly glued on. At the moment Theo is the only striker Arsenal have who is scoring regularly, he will probably be sold. We're on a road to nowhere.

Yes it was a far better result than pundits, including this one, and come on be honest many Arsenal fans, ever expected. But if Arsenal give away as many chances as they did against Schalke against premiership teams they can expect a few more defeats. If only Theo had scored that final chance, he would have been a hero. Instead the question marks and debates still continue about him.
