The more we heard the less we felt that the Directors and Manager have a perspective for this club, unless sit and wait is a perspective. Gazides has replaced Bernard Shaw as the most famous Fabian, for those who don’t know what Fabianism is it is the belief in gradual change and progress the inevitable road to gradualism, or was it the gradual road to inevitability?
No Passion No Perspective
Ivan was asked if he had a vision beyond finishing 3rd or 4th every year, talk is cheap he replied, and then proceeded to give us plenty of it, after all it was at no extra expense. We were given a potted history of the club, first there was the primeval soup, and then the dinosaurs. The Dinosaurs died out and the alluvial plains settled creating the river Thames which led to the creation of the Woolwich Arsenal. The soft London clay made the building of the Piccadilly line possible which led to Gillespie Road and the Home of Football. Finally the club evolved into its purest form and moved to a new stadium.
Like all evolutionary changes time was needed to adapt, and thanks to the Fifa Fair Play regulations that adaption is now coming to fruition. Now pay attention because the next bit is a quote not a summary, “Football is moving in Arsenal’s direction”. Arsenal will need to improve a bit and realise its global brand, and increase commercial revenue. But by 2014 football will have moved, by popular request, into Arsenal’s direction.
So there it is football is about to drop into our laps, now that took 20 minutes and many of us had lost the will to live, or had forgotten the question. How exactly did it answer the question? No mention of winning the league, no passion and no perspective of how they the Directors were going to make it happen. How would they beat Chelsea or Man City? How would they stop them poaching our players and get better ones of our own. No it was all to be inevitable. Whether that would happen with or without RvP he refused to discuss. Though one would assume it will be harder without the Dutchman, but maybe under FFP rules he will be given back to us. That’s question 2 dealt with.
You will be pleased to know they have learnt from last season, and that lesson is do your business as soon as possible, so that probably means it all over on transfer front. Unless they haven’t learnt the lesson and we can expect a last minute rush, which isn’t a rush but is actually planned.
Salary Structure
This has not been as efficient as it could have been in terms of young players and value for money, but they will continue with the existing policy but more efficiently – groan. I got the feeling there would be some more changes but that the long term nature of contracts is making any major change difficult.
The future is bright
Meanwhile the club is looking forward to higher revenues from sponsorships in 2014 as its changed back room structure hopefully delivers the goods by positioning the club to take advantage of its international reputation due to its magnificent and much envied self sustaining model. Plucky little Arsenal will demonstrate you don’t need billionaires money to succeed. Even if billionaires need Arsenal to boost their portfolios.

Can you image what exams would be like if people could ask the examining bodies to afford us the same privilege, or murder trials where the defendant got to vet the questions that the plaintiff could pose, is there any chance of a conviction here ?
You all got stonewalled by a practitioner in words of art, the board hate having to even seem answerable to the peasants, don't you know that they are high rollers ?!
They know how long the procedure will last to the second and that is why people who have been supporting the club for 30 years were told what they already knew in the history lesson, they were killing time.

So what exactly FFP will benefit Arsenal? Without FFP Arsenal doesn't spend more than they sell, with FFP Gazidis wouldn't spend a $ what he makes.

I could guess it will be hard to actually attend these meetings in next couple of years time or probably attend as a fun filled event.
It's same like transfer, I could see very few people actually even believe there is any possible transfer

No spin works anymore, the situation at the club is everybody knows what they do and the expectation from the club is at the lowest.

Before, anyone could take this cue and jump the Gazidis bring in the commercial band wagon. Few words on this:
No commercial team could bring in commercial values unless it's backed by the actual business ie. football on the pitch here in this case. Man United's commercial success is due to the success on the football pitch backed by trophies. Everton can't bring in commercial values as Arsenal and similarly Arsenal can't bring commercial values anywhere close to Man United, Chelsea etc. The guys who sign advertising and sponsorship deals with the clubs aren't fool, they know how to assess their return of investment than Gazidis or anyone else.
Last friday, I saw one of our colleague, who we know have almost no interest or idea about football came to work wearing a brand new Chelsea shirt probably worth $60 o 70. It's not that he's a Chelsea fan now but that's how people spend their money just to jump on the new band wagon.
There are ways to do the business, Stan Kroenke has his way, so it's irrelevant to spin on these financial issues to common fans.

Still blows my mind how badly we blew the footballing and business opportunities the Invincibles created for Arsenal. Not touring America after the 2004 was just a stupid business decision really.
The fact is at thayt not only was Thierry Henry a regular in as many American TV commercials in fact more of them than David Beckham but he was well-known celebrity NBA fan who counted top players like Tony Parker the star of that uyears NBA Champions and celebrities like Spike Lee.
At the Same time Freddie Ljungberg was featured in a building-sized billboard for Calvin Klein in Times Square, and the team featured several other market friendly types including Robert Pires, Jose Reyesm Denis Bergkamp and jens Lehmann.
And the team itself had achieved historical succes and done so playing a far more attractive dynamic and athletic brand of football which would appeal more to American neutrals. The Invincbles were the first real SportsCenter friendly European football side.
Not taking that team to America was just idiotic as we'll likely never approach having a team that could have been used for the marketing revenue streams Kroenke and Gazidis envision as that side could and should have been.

I agree about the reliance on new sponsorship being very risky. Who knows what people will be prepared to spsonsor arsenal or who they are and what they represent. For example I wouldnt want an oil company cponsoring us even though they could potentially spend a lot of money on the club etc.
So the basis of this,if my understanding is correct, we sit on our hands and wait for UEFA to hand us the trophies.

Of course I am biased but that doesnt mean that I didnt report the nub of what he actually said, so if you can find a transcript that contradicts the main thrust of article, that it is sit and wait for FFP and new sponsors, then I shall be surprised.
