Penalties not a problem

West Ham looked exactly like a team nailed to the bottom of the table playing a team in third place. Surely Arsenal will never get an easier game than this? Avram Grant must have rehearsed the parting of the Red Sea with his team in training for every time Arsenal approached the West Ham half their defenders cleared the way to let the Gunners through.

According to the BBC Arsenal had 62% possession, eleven shots on target and eight off target. West Ham had only 5 shots all game, and only three of those on target. ESPN declared that Fabregas completed more passes in the first half than the whole of the Hammer’s midfield.

Not happy at halftime

Yes I know I am a moaner, a fifth columnist, not a real supporter for the last 55 years, but sorry I have to say it I felt tetchy at half time. Why weren’t we six nil up? I don’t mind walking the ball into the net, they have walked it into the net more times than any other team in the premiership so it’s not a completely bad idea, in fact it’s a good one. So why the unease at 2 nil up?

Past weighs like a nightmare on the minds of the living

The reason is well known to Arsenal fans who have watched this defence throw away two goal leads away again and again. Not just against Spurs and Wigan, but recently at Upton Park. I would have felt more comfortable with the third a lot earlier.

Fibs

My belief is that a true top of the table team, not Man City (as that is a fib, they are not the league leaders they have just played more games ( They don’t attack away from home, indeed it took them 81 minutes to get the third at Upton Park ha ha), would have got the third a lot earlier than the 77th minute.

However, if I had known the Hammers were that poor I could have relaxed at 1-0. This was a romp, a win at a canter a stroll in the park, pick your own cliché. I doubt if Arsenal will get an easier game again all season, certainly not against Championship sides

Theo says they have learnt from Ipswich game

After the game Theo put the victory down to learning from Ipswich debacle. If I had a tenner for every time an Arsenal player said that after a bad performance I could retire a full year earlier. Let’s see how the B team gets on at Leeds, besides evidence of learning will be proved at the end of year exam in May.

Theo had a great game

RvP got Man of the Match, yes he was very good, and a great penalty, but Theo was unlucky. How many players make two assists, score the best goal of the game in a 3-0 win and don’t get that award. His goal was terrific, it just didn’t look on, that was a natural goal scorer’s goal. Did he think? How does anybody know? The point is that he did what natural scorers do, he put it away in a flash before anybody else can think.

 Penalty Myth

Arsenal fans needn't have worried that Theo wouldnt be awarded any more penalties after his brainstorm of honesty last week. Only nasty foreigners, and non Man U players, caught up in these controversies are denied them for life. For English players penalties are a golden birthright, even when Gerrard and Rooney blatantly dive.

No one will blame you for being uneasy at 2 nil up...They say once beaten twice shy... statistics has shown that we concede most goals the last minutes of the game.


Theo's goal was class. A typical strikers instinct goal. i actually thought he will get the man of the match.....

yes i thought Theo had a chance, but I suppose 2 goals and 1 assist beat 2 assists and 1 goal. Plus he (RvP) stopped rolling around on the pitch
