Man of Match

By Boris Mellor
September 18 2008

I came back late from watching the match at friends' house. Strange game, mainly because of the camerawork, maybe it looked ok if you were actually there. I think it was filmed by a one armed man on a trampoline in the right hand corner of the ground. Unless the TV set was wonky, I can't explain the weird angles on the screen. It probably made Arsenal's formation look stranger than it was.

Anyway I digress, my point was I got back late and decided to surf the web. Now true we didn't play brilliantly, but we still had the best chances in first half, played off the pace in the second half, conceded to a penalty, and then got a late draw. Gallas certainly gets goals that count. Must be his mental weakness, doesn't realize how hard it actually is.

Dam I am digressing again, my point was surfing the web, what had the bloggers and media got to say? I wasn't expecting any rave reviews. Well it was all about how Arsenal had struggled to a 1-1 draw. I suppose that's true, but there was something missing. Ah yes it was that penalty - now where was it? Not in the blogs they were too busy giving Almunia five out of ten, quite right too how could he not have saved that Penalty.

But I digress, the issue is that nobody mentioned it, leastways not in the hot off the blog editions I read. Apologies if you did mention it(true the excellent, and well balanced Arseblog dealt with it this morning, but I am discussing last night). So I turned to the Irish Independent - it is are you? So what was its view of the penalty,   "Vukojevic went down under pressure from Sagna". Really?  Wow a very independent view that.

Utter tosh, it was not a foul, even stone face Platt said it wasn't a pen, and normally he wouldn't give Wenger the pickings of his nose. The Kiev player put his arm around Sagna and dragged him down. Complete and utter cheat. That's how they got the lead, they didn't beat our defence in open play, actually our defence restricted Kiev to only a few chances. Almunia didn't have that many saves to make.

I will say it again, we didn't play that well, but I am not going to over analyse it. In fact if the Gunners had taken just one of the very good chances we had in the first half it would have been a different story.

When Wenger took Song off to get more tempo we were nearly torn apart, but in the end it paid off and Arsenal equalised. I predicted it would be like a visit to the Dentist, nice when it stopped, and I think a draw is a reasonable result. Porto will be there in winter let us see how they get on.

Final point, there was more wayward shooting, especially from RvP, and Fabregas who missed the best chance of the game. But Walcott goes from strength to strength. Easily my man of the match. Arsenal have now played 7 times out East and lost five, there are worse things than drawing. I will say it again, win the home games, and draw the aways and bingo.

i refuse to discuss the ref's poor game, nor the cheating diver, nor the chances we squandered that would have given us the full maximum points, nor the fact that the ref was waiting for theo to bleed before he intervenes.

what i will say is ...

game over.we got a draw which wenger said wouldn't be a bad result.bolton hear we come...

it's bolton.. game on.

fab is still rusty from euro blues.you miss chances ,you pay.song steadys the midfield but that patnership brings no creativity especially as fab is not firing on full cylinders.

the last time we went to this region.we got mugged by a bad ref call.remember thierry's clean goal that was canceled?
we spent the whole days ahead larmenting that call and ended up playing a voodoo match at home where the players all left their boots somewhere and forgot where the post was.

i say forget this game until we meet kiev at the emirates, then we shall see if the ref will play to their gallery or to ours.they can't beat us at home even if they park the santini bus in front of goal.

Once again SKY used the oh so Arsenal hater Platt - I know he is an ex Arsenal player but we know he hates Wenger for calling his bluff and ending Platt's career - the cu nt does not even try to hide his hate for Arsenal

The worste I seen last night was Giles, Dunphy and Whealan on RTE going on about how Arsenal were outplayed, how Walcott was no good and his cross for the goal was mishit, how the penalty was a clear cut penalty and that Sagna was so stupid to foul when there was no need and of course that the best Arsenal can hope for is a good run in the CC or FAC cos they are so far off the big three - I kid you not - oh after their ambush on Brady with the Wenger tape last season they kept showing shots of Wenger looking agiatiated last night too, what prats
