Wigan ready for Spanish lessons

Wigan are preparing an offer for Spanish legend Josep Guardiola. The playmaker is currently without a club, so can move outside of the transfer window, and Wigan boss Paul Jewell sees the ex Barcelona man as an ideal signing: "I have spoken to Pep and I was very impressed that he knew so much about us," said Jewell. "His experience would be a help to us."

Pep left Barcelona in 2001 after 11 years with the Catalan giants, but has suffered since, including a four month ban while playing for Brescia in Serie A for nandrolone abuse.

River Plate in Argentina are also keen to offer the 34 year old a lifeline, but it is thought that a move to the Premiership would appeal to the player as he looks for one last chance in the big time.
