AZ Alkmaar has signed U-20 Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero from Racing. The transfer, of 1.45 million euros, was confirmed and the player will join his new team in June.
Sergio Romero, with only one full match in the first team but with several matches for the U-20 Argentinean national team, will be yet another starlet to make his breakthrough into a first team far from his birth country.
Taunted to be the next keeper in the fight for a place in the national team in the years to come (not THE keeper, considering he has to compete against very promising young players like Ustari, Carrizo and Barbosa), it is understandable how and why Louis Van Gaal, who admitted being a fan of Argentine football, decided to sign him.
