Sepp Blatter has told Liverpool that they must be prepared to travel to Japan for the World Club Championship. The Fifa president was adamant that they must travel and face the South American champions. It had been reported that Liverpool were hoping to give the competition a miss, with what is likely to be a very long season for the Reds already, this was a distraction that club officials felt they could live without.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Blatter insisted:

"They must play the Toyota Cup because it is binding to them for 2005."

"The Cup is in Japan and they will have to play.

"Do you think they won't play? They will play."
