Liverpool move blocked by Real Madrid

New Real Madrid coach Wanderley Luxemburgo has stated that he will attempt to block any move by Liverpool to sign striker Fernando Morientes. Liverpool had made the Madrid man top priority during the January transfer window and Morientes was making all the right noises about joining, but the new coach has other ideas:

"I don't like reinforcing the rivals," stated Luxemburgo. "Morientes joining Liverpool will be like helping an enemy.

"I want to speak with Morientes, to know what he is thinking.

"Later I will meet the club and we will decide."

However unless he can guarantee the player more games, then he could have to face up to losing him anyway.

With an injury crisis at Liverpool, it seems likely that if they cannot land their chosen target that they will look elsewhere.
