Newcastle bid for Deportivo La Corunna striker?

According to Spanish media, Newcastle United have made a €5m bid for Deportivo La Corunna’s striker Walter Pandiani. The 28-year-old Uruguayan forward, who has played for Deportivo since moving from Penarol in 2000, would allegedly be allowed to go, after the Spanish outfit admitted being in favour of a €8m sale.

Newcastle United, who were initially linked with Real Madrid’s Fernando Morientes, and although this bid was admitted by Real Madrid, it was denied by Newcastle United, but it now appears manager Graeme Souness has been weighing up the odds for Deportivo’s Pandiani, with an alleged €5m bid to the Riazor outfit.

The main stumbling block now appears to be the difference in the valuations of the two clubs involved should that be sorted out Pandiani, as known as ‘The Rifle’, could very well be on his way to St James Park.
