Interesting Development Regarding Stamford Bridge

Staying??

Funny. Just like London Buses (you don't see one for ages and then three come along at once etc etc etc etc), London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham today released a statement outlining their desire to see Chelsea Football Club remain at Stamford Bridge. Funny again that this is the same Borough Council that caused Ken Bates all the problems in the world when he wanted to re-develop Stamford Bridge.

Eventually Bates got there in the end, but not without many and severe problems. To this day I still think that 'Old Grey Beard' had to settle for second best and that he had to downsize his original plans.

Who knows? Batesy could have wanted a 55,000 capacity stadium in the first place!!

Funny. London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham now pipe up after the stunning SAY NO CPO vote last week.

Their statement reads:

'In light of the recent decision by Chelsea Pitch Owners PLC to retain its freehold of the ground, we reaffirm our desire to Chelsea FC remain in the Borough and our commitment to help the club to remain at its historic home of Stamford Bridge.

'The Counci now proposes to examine whether there are planning options to expand Stamford Bridge to accommodate a larger capacity, recognising that such a project must be economically viable, benefit local businesses and not unreasonably affect residents.

'We look forward to working closely with Chelsea FC and all local stakeholders as soon as possible to examine the options of redeveloping Stamford Bridge.'

WELL KNOCK ME DOWN WITH A FEATHER

In light of the above statement, Chelsea Football Club replied with a statement of their own.

It reads:

'Chelsea Football Club welcomes the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham's commitment to see the Club in the Borough and importantly their recognition of our need for greater capacity at Stamford Bridge.

'As an inital step in a renewed dialogue with the Borough, we would like to explore promptly with LBHF how they propose helping us address the club's current problem of Stamford Bridge having substantially reduced capacity for big games.

'We will be happy to meet Borough officials to discuss this further and especially their desire to see us stay at Stamford Bridge.'

WELL KNOCK ME DOWN WITH A FEATHER...... AGAIN!!

Could this be the reason why Chelsea tried to 'railroad' the CPO?

We still haven't heard anything about this back from the council.

Meanwhile....Battersea looms?

"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they donít like it." P Kenyon.

Are the club even interested in talking to the council? Or are they so fed up with pleading for them they are waiting for them to come up with something?

Seems to look like we will DEFINITELY move.....
