Benfica 1-2 Chelsea: Super Frank Signs New Deal

Fresh from leading Chelsea to a historic victory in the Europa League final in Amsterdam last night – yep – historic – Cup Winners Cup Winners, Champions League winners, Europa League winners and not forgetting UEFA Super Cup winners, Chelsea announced this afternoon that Super 203 Goal Frankie Lampard has signed a one year extension on his contact that will keep him at Chelsea until the Summer 2014.

After months of uncertainty and much, much press speculation, Chelsea in their statement said, “Frank has been an important player for Chelsea Football Club for a long time and has played a significant part in the club’s success.

“We have been talking to him since the end of last year and our discussions have been entirely positive throughout. We are delighted we are now announcing an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until 2014.”

Super Frank said, “I’m absolutely delighted. Everybody knows I always maintained the dream to stay at Chelsea. We’ve have been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.

“I want to thank Mr Abramovich for everything he’s done in making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived.

“The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn’t be happier.”

If it wasn’t for the fantastic first-half save from Artur and the crossbar in the second-half, Super Frank’s all time goalscoring record would have increased by two, but with his new deal in place there is no reason why that total shouldn’t be in the 220s this time next season.

Got to give credit where credit is due. The Fat One has delivered on his remit, getting Chelsea back into the Champions League next season and a trophy to go with it.

I don’t like the bloke and I never will and Sunday cannot come quick enough for his ‘interimship’ to end (forget the US two game charade), but fair play to the bloke, he has stabilised uncertainty, won us a trophy and appears to have won the respect of the players and he leaves Chelsea with another trophy on his CV.

Had he done ‘things’ differently in both semi-finals of the League Cup and FA Cup and not forgetting the Club World Cup, he may have well added one or two more trophies to that CV.
