Chelsea 3-3 Everton: A Masterclass in Comedy Defending

Cech Spent?

Starring Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Ricky Carvalho, John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Didier Drogba. What an afternoon especially for the neutral. SIX goals and a masterclass of comedy defending. A Chelsea defensive display that would have made and graced Hackney Marshes on a cold, wet Sunday morning after a few pints and curry the night before.

Everton rode their luck and deservedly so. All their goals had that element of luck and I don't think David Moyes could have believed the early Christmas present his team received on Saturday.

Prior to Saturday Chelsea had only conceded one league goal at home and that was conceded on the first day of the season when Hull City came visiting.

All three goals came from set-pieces. The curse of the set-piece. Leighton Baines whipped in a curling cross, Saha jumped the highest and steered his header towards goal, Cech was far too slow to dive and was probably a couple of steps out of position - the ball bounced off the post then Cech's back and bobbled into the net.

Everton's 2nd and their first equaliser came from a throw-in. The ball bounced about in the area, JT swung a boot and scuffed the ball, like an amateur on a golf course, Yakubu volleyed in from close range.

Everton's 3rd and their second equaliser came from another free-kick and was probably the funniest goal Chelsea have conceded for a long, long time. The free-kick came in, Cech started to come for it then stopped, Drogba rose and headed the ball onto Saha's back and then the ball looped high into Chelsea's net.

Let's face it the defense played without organisation, concentration, communication and intensity and as far as I am concerned Chelsea defended those free-kicks too deep and Cech has to take the majority of the blame for two of the three goals conceded.

I doubt if anybody can offer an explanation as to what has 'SUDDENLY' gone wrong especially as it was only a few weeks ago Chelsea travelled to Goonerville and kept a clean sheet.

The defence was completely changed for the Carling Cup trip to Ewood Park and at the moment the defence are playing like they are playing together for the first time and more errors were made against Money Citeh and APOEL!!!
