The U18s did it on Friday 1-0 against Woolwich, the first team did it against Woolwich on Sunday 2-1 and tonight it is the turn of the reserves who take on Woolwich on their own manor, no not Woolwich, Barnet FCs Underhill Stadium over in NORF London!!!
Some of the team who played in Chelsea's excellent youth win against Villa last week are rewarded with promotion to the reserves.
The reserves won their first game since September at 'troubled' Derby last week with a 2-0 win.
16yr old Jeffrey Bruma makes his debut in the middle of the defence alongside Football Icon winner Carl Magnay (who has been outstanding and IS JT in disguise).
Adam Phillip who scored against Woolwich on Friday and scored in both legs against Aston Villa is on the bench, Daniel Philliskirk who was signed from Oldham Athletic last Summer and scored against Derby last week retains his place and plays alongside 'the potential sensation' Franco Di Santo.
Woolwich' s team includes the Hoyte brothers, Djourou, Traore and is a strong team. When the two teams met at Griffin Park earlier in the season Woolwich won 1-0.
Teams:
Chelsea:
Stuart Searle, Shaun Cummings, Jeffrey Bruma, Carl Magnay, Patrick Van Aanholt, Phil Younghusband, Sergio Tejera, Jimmy Smith (c), Fabio Ferreira, Franco Di Santo, Daniel Philliskirk
subs: Niclas Heimann, Nana Ofori-Twumasi, Ricardo Fernandes, Michael Woods, Adam Phillip
Woolwich:
Vito Mannone, Gavin Hoyte, Justin Hoyte, Johan Djourou, Armand Traore, Rene Steer, Havard Nordvelt, Alexandre Song, James Dunne, Rui Fonte, Rhys Murphy
Subs: James Shea, Luke Ayling, Abu Ogogo, Paul Rodgers, Jay Emmanuel- Thomas
So the Woolwich have a few first teamers in there. They obviously dont want to lose this one. This will be a very tough match.
Good to see some of our youth getting promoted into the reserves although our resreves are very young anyway.

Yellow? Hmmmm... Is it the "electric yellow" one from this season.or the new yellow for next season?

F knows! Always baffles me when teams change colours for no apparant reason. Marketing? Either that or the first kit is still in the wash!

Excellent free-kick routine have to say - ball was rolled 20 yards across Chelsea's area about 25 yards out and Song picked his spot
Chelsea since goinf 1-0 down have had two decent chances to equalise first from Philliskirk, good save from Vito and from 25 yards from Tejera, Vito saves down by his right

So, the feeling I get is that we are pushing strongly but obviously have to be ready for strong counter attacks?

Slope! No wonder they call it "Underhill". Didn´t know that!
So, are we "kicking down" now then?
You would have thought a club like the Woolwich with their penchant for youth would have found better facilities.

A Woolwich attack breaks down and Shaun (my man of the match) breaks out and passes to Di Santo who takes the ball into the corner of the penalty area - he shoots low down past Mannone

Sounds like it could be a very interesting last 10 mins.

Once Chelsea equalised they had the upper hand for 5 to 10 mins and then it has gone pot!!!
Shaun Cummings has been excellent, so has Carl Magnay (remember this geordie won Football Icon the 2nd series and he is in the mould of JT - except he hasn't dived using his hands yet!!!!! eheheheheh)
Di Santo has worked his socks off again - but has been booked for using his mouth too much, Latin American temperment to the fore I suppose)
Excellent result considering we were using some of our youth players and they had some first teamers out.

Indeed and it shows that the whole youth development and reserve projects are slowly beginning to bear fruit when you consider that many (especially Woolwich fans) never stopped harping on about their youth system compared to ours etc etc...
