Unless you have been living of planet Zog, the World Cup is here and the World Cup kicked-off yesterday with a charming, different, colourful opening ceremony followed by the host nation, South Africa taking on the challenge of the Mexicans in Group A

The start of the day of South Africa's day was marred by the news that Nelson Mandela's great-grandaughter had been killed in a car crash.

Tshabalala, who plays for the Kaizer Chiefs, scored the first goal of the tournament giving the Africans the lead which sent the locals into delirium and increased the decibel levels of the already loud Vuvuzela's (I Want One!!).

In the later game, also in Group A, France and Uruguay played out a dismal 0-0 draw. Chelsea's Florent Malouda was a surprise substitute. It emerged later that he and Dommenech had 'handbags' the day before, therefore Malouda became a benchwarmer.

Malouda got on eventually late-on, but he couldn't work the miracle that troubled France needed to get off to a winning start.
