Finally South Africa WC2010 is HERE

COME ON ENGLAND

Four years in the making since Italy lifted the trophy in Germany. Two years of qualification and hundreds of friendlies later, South Africa WC2010 kicks off later today with the hosts taking on Mexico in Group A, the first game of the tournament. A festival of football, lasting four weeks.

Also in action today are France who have been traumitised in their build-up, against Uruguay - Group A's 2nd game of the day.

But do we really care about the other teams, when there is only one game that will either set the tone of England's competition, or put the whole country under stress and worry.

Saturday is the day when England kick-off their campaign against the U.S.A at 7.30pm. The country, especially in parts of the South, where I have travelled in the last few days has turned Red and White - Flags, Banners, Bunting.

Cars, Vans, Lorries streaming about with Red and White flags fluttering in the wind. Vehicles repainted with the Cross of St George and this is only a snapshot of what I have seen.

If the rest of the country has gone 'Red and White Barmy Army' mad, I would imagine the astronauts in the Space Station, orbiting the earth, would double, nay treble blink our small Isle be-decked in Red and White. Sunglasses and visors at the ready chaps.

Even the Prime Minister has vowed to raise the Cross of St George, aloft at No.10, much to the dismay of the PC brigade.

After this week's player cull at Chelsea, Chelsea's player participation in South Africa is down to 10 (11 if Didier Drogba regains fitness).

Three for England, Three for Portugal, Two for France, One for Ivory Coast, One for Serbia.

Still, whatever the futures wait in store for the remaining Chelsea players whilst they are World Cup duty, lets hope WC2010 is a cracking and entertaining tournament, and.........

COME ON ENGLAND!!!
