COME ON CHELSEA

According to our closest rivals. You know the ones I mean, the debt ridden club run by the Double Glazers, Have You Ever Seen Gerrard Win the League? and the other one who play in a Corporate Stadium who are top of the League at the moment say we have NO HISTORY, well up yours and settle back for a nice little history lesson and I will admit yours truly gets his comeuppance.

The last time Chelsea faced Preston in the FA Cup was Stamford Bridge back in 2002 when David Moyes was their manager.

After going a shock goal down, Chelsea recovered to win 3-1.

Prior to that, Chelsea had met Preston four times in the OLD division two, each team winning one game and the other two were drawn.

The history lesson I am about to give you took place back in 1969 when I was a mere 10 year old (well nearly 11). Chelsea travelled to Preston and got a 0-0 draw, the replay was set for the following Wednesday and Chelsea were cruising into the next round winning 2-0 with goals from the late Ian Hutchinson and Alan Birchenall. With fifteen minutes to go the floodlights failed and after a period of time the game was abandoned.

The following Monday the game was staged again at 2pm.

Chelsea won 2-1 with two late, very late goals from David Webb and Charlie Cooke and this is where yours truly gets involved.

At school, during register on the day of the game , I accidently 'grassed' up an absentee pupil who went to Stamford Bridge that afternoon and the next day after school, after 30 pupils 'grassed' me up, I got well and truly battered.

Fella I still remember your name if you are reading this.

As for Saturdays game the Boss has already announced his team. I quite like the idea of the Boss showing his hand every now and again and this is his selection:

'Anco' went on to explain that Ashley is out because "I want to leave him out to rest for the game against Birmingham," this after he was taken off at half-time during last weeks 7-2 win over Sunderland.

The Boss explained the situation about Joe Cole. He said, "Joe Cole will be in the squad next year.

"The aim of the club is to keep him in the squad because he is an important player, he is a very professional player with a lot of quality and a player of the English national team."
