Roy Hodgson said after the game "We had no energy." Not only that Fulham did not create one single effort on target. Their only effort came inside two minutes when Clint Dempsey turned and shot high over the bar, when scoring seemed the easier option. To be fair Chelsea didn't have a shot on target until Dids struck five minutes before half-time.

Fifteen minutes from time, Didier set Anelka away and Anelka rounded Schwarzer to wrap the points up in front of the noisy, vociferous Chelsea fans.

Anco made changes from the Sunderland game. Out went Essien, Ivanovic, Deco. In came Malouda, Carvalho and Mikel and Anco declared, "I will continue to rotate players."

Ex-Chelsea player Damien Duff made his full debut but on-loan signing Jonathan Greening had to sit this one out because his registration didn't come through in time.

I will give Anco is due. He recognises he has two quality strikers on his hands and he his trying to find a way to play them together as strikers. In the first-half Anelka played out wide but in the second-half Anoc moved him in a bit and the switch paid dividends.

Anco said, "I was sure that they can play together, they are fantastic strikers. They have different qualities and I am very happy because the first goal, Nicolas put a fantastic pass for Didier and for the second, Didier put a fantastic pass for Nicolas. It was a very good job together.

"Our idea today for Nicolas is that he should stay a little bit behind Didier. The first half he played a little bit on the right wing and for this I thought our play was not so good first half. But it was better second half because he played a position more in the centre.

"Nicolas is a very complete striker. He can play in the centre, he can play on the right or the left position and he can play behind the striker.

"But not only did Drogba and Anelka work well together on the pitch, all the team worked well together on the pitch."

Not only did Chelsea score first, Chelsea kept their first clean sheet of the season,
