Just I was preparing to write this preview I opened up my email and saw this in the subject line: 'IT HAD TO HAPPEN.' I already knew what the email was referring to, because I had just heard that Petr Cech was ruled out of tomorrow's game with a back injury.

Apparently Cechie boy sustained a kick in the back at Liverpool and as well as missing tomorrow, he is not expected to play for the Czech Republic in midweek.

Oh yeah another round of meaningless friendlies, just when we are starting to get to the business end of the season.

After last week's defeat at Liverpool, Chelsea need to prioritise on staying in the top four to play Champions League football next season.

Automatic qualification for the Champions League would be nice, having to qualify would be acceptable, at least Chelsea will be in that position.

It's been a difficult week for Chelsea and their preparations for the visit of Hull.

Defeat at Anfield, the extraordinary snow fall on Monday hampering training at Cobham where most of the work was done inside in the dome and on Thursday, the team trained on the lush turf at Stamford Bridge.

Unless the weather turns really really freakish, the game is on.

The best news of the week was the rescinding of Super Franks red card after his altercation with his 'best' mate Xabi Alonso and talking of Alonso, did you know that Alonso had been involved in FIVE of six incidents that have seen opposition players receive the red card?

The five players are: Nemanja Vidic, Tim Cahill, Pablo Zabaleta, Antonio Valencia and Super Frank

Oh I almost forgot. Everton beating Liverpool in the last minute of the FA Cup replay during the week was another best news of the week moment.

With Cech out, Hilario will step in. I have no problem with Hilario, my concern is since Carlo left us we only have Rhys Taylor and Nic Heimann as cover until Cechie boy returns - one reserve keeper and one youth team keeper.

Hilario has been the consumate professional, brought to the club by Jose, Hilario knew his chances of first team action would be limited but he still moved his family over to Cobham and got his children settled into new schools as quickly as possible.

Carvalho is still out, but new loan signing Ricardo Quaresma is expected to make his first team debut wearing the No.18 shirt.

Most bookmakers are offering 11/1 for Quaresma to score the first goal.

Anyway...

Typical Chelsea though isn´t it? Selling Cuducini and just 2 weeks later Cech is out! That said, whenever Hilario has had to step in he´s never let us down.

We could do with a nice convincing win tomorrow. As pointed out in the preview they have some important absences which should help quite a bit.

What line-up though?

Will he start with Quaresma? Will he insist still with Malouda and leave poor old Stochie boy out?

I would guess he will go 4-3-3 as always with Malouda and Kalou and Anelka, then later bring on Quaresma and Drogba.

I´d love to see Quaresma on the left, Drogba in the middle and then Stoch on the right - won´t happen though.

Still...

Come on Chelsea!

WE HAVE HISTORY

No other club has a longer history with Chelsea and Stamford Bridge than Hull. They were the opponents in the first ever competitive match on the Fulham Road on 11 September 1905 in front of 6,000. Two Pensioners scored on their home debuts in a 5-1 win: Davie Copeland (2) and Jimmy Windridge (3).
