Last week I wrote that The Academy love to score goals and cough cough they like to concede them to. On Saturday making the short journey across to East London to play West Ham, The Academy let in two, but scored four and the hero of the day was 'striking sensation,' Fabio Borini who grabbed a brace to take his tally to eight goals in the last three weeks.

The game didn't start well as our youngsters went one down inside five minutes but the deficit only lasted five minutes when Jeffrey Bruma equalised.

On twenty minutes Fabio got his first and a whack in the face for his troubles and then on 30 minutes the Academy went 3-1 up with Jacob Mellis scoring.

On 52 minutes Fabio got his second to put the Academy 4-1 up and it took a couple of great saves from NIc Heimann to keep the Irons at bay, until he was finally beaten on 68 minutes when West Ham pulled the score back to 4-2.

With the reserves and the Academy getting one or two over Chelsea legends Zola and Clarke, Academy coach Paul Clement said, "It was very pleasing in the first-half, even if we didn't quite keep it going in the second.

"It is important for Bruma, Mellis, Kakuta and Borini to play regularly as there are only 16 reserve league games this season and it was all Chelsea before the break, creating chances all the place. We could have gone in at 4-1 which would have been a fair scoreline.

"After that it went a bit flat, we didn't maintain our intensity but we still created a few chances and hit three shots into the sidenetting.

"We continue to score plenty of goals and are one of the highest scoring out of all youth teams in the country. Unfortunately we have the worst defensive record as well so we are disappointed to concede two again - but overall it was still a pleasing display."

This Borini kid is doing well isn´t he?!

How´s Kakuta after his injury by the way?

16 games isn´t a lot is it? Maybe there is a case to integrate reserve sides (who will use academy players sometimes in Chelsea´s case) into the lower reaches of the league?

Kakuta is on his way back after along time out. He plyaed the whole game on Saturday.

Both the reserves and the Academy have short seasons - so Chelsea are arranging home and away friendlies with the likes of Liverpool, AC (away) Inter home and away and Juventus home and away - to give the kids more experience and to extend the season further.

Its more for the reserves, but alot of Academy will be involved.
