Destruction Down By The Riverside

Cult Hero Belletti

I started to think at half-time that Chelsea would need a second goal as quick as they could get it as 1-0 was still in the grasp of a 'Boro side easily outplayed in the first-half and 'Boro were bound to get some dangerous moments in the 2nd. Memories of 2006 were at the back of my mind when Chelsea were beaten 2-1 when 'Boro scored two very very late goals.

After 60 minutes all bad memories were dispelled as Chelsea were 5-0 up with a rush of goals from Kalou, Super Frank, Malouda and 'cult hero' Belletti with a stunning strike from 35 yards, which should be in the shake-up for goal of the season.

Kalou got the first after a fine cross from Bridge which was partially cleared, 'cult hero' Belletti chipped the ball back and the ball broke clear to sweep it past Turnbull in the 'Boro goal.

Chelsea got the plaudits for the display against Villa before the international break, but this display was as awesome, exciting and exhilarating despite being without many regular first-teamers - Cech, Essien, Ballack, Drogba, the two Coles and Carvalho.

Scolari spoke about the players that came in and said, "They are sending a message to me - a message that I am here, I have good form, please look at me more times.

"Today is good for us. I put some players in that haven't played many games and they showed they are in good condition to play for Chelsea. It isn't only 11 and this spirit of a group is what I want."

Speaking about the contribution of 'cult hero' Belletti Scolari said, "I know Belletti very well, I am Brazilian and I know him from when he started to play in Sao Paolo. I played against him many times and I know his potential, and he helps us in whatever position you put him.

"It was a good performance from the team but I think they have played many games very well. Sometimes we score many goals, sometimes one or two but in the 11 games, only one or two I am not happy with my team.

"If we win all the games 1-0, I am happy, but we need to understand that Middlesbrough or other teams in the Premier League, they have good quality and if we make any mistake, they kill us.

"If we put two goals in, it becomes easier to work the ball, there is more space. Sometimes you need to have possession and in that time if we don't make more goals, we need to accept 1-0. But today they gave chances for a second goal, a beautiful goal for Belletti and after a few minutes more, a third goal for us.

"It opened the space and it was calm for my players."

Southgate said after, "It was a humbling experience for us and when you play a side of Chelsea's quality, that can happen."

Funny carefree I thought it was gonna be close LOL - in fact I should have missed the game - I was down to work, got to the job and it got cancelled.

I should have seen that as a sign - I was destined to see Boro get destroyed.

I would have settled for a point before the match!

What a performance!

We had 7 first team players out + Deco (who isnīt 100%) but you didnīt notice.

Belletti has been a revelation in a new postion - and another superb strike. Looks like Since 66 was right re the suggestion that he is developing into a "cult" player for us.

So Roma and Liverpool coming up. I wonder who will be back from injury?

"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.

Scolari reckons that Dids will be ready to face Liverpool next Sunday/

Regarding Belletti - it isn't just me who thinks he deserves cult hero status - if he carries on like this he will get promoted to LEGEND.
