Yet again The Shed End will be packed to the rafters of Blue and White and it won't be Chelsea Blue and White. 6,000 Shrimpers will make their way up the A127 and no doubt embarass us with their support like most teams generally do.
Listen out for 'Where were you when you were s**t?' Gotta laugh ain;t yer?
Tomorrow afternoon Chelsea entertain League One Southend United in the greatest domestic cup competition in the world, a competition that I love and hold dear to my heart. The FA Cup is the BEST competition in the world. Nowadays some devalue the FA Cup's worth - media, clubs, fans, TV coverage and in general the 'prawn sandwich' brigade that clubs attract nowadays - ask a 'prawnie' if they have heard of the FA Cup they would probably reply, is it a Twinings? Earlier today I was going to write about 40 year old Paul Furlong coming back to the Bridge, but Southend let him go to Barnet on loan. So bye bye Paul, but Chelsea can welcome back ex-reserve teamer, Anthony Grant who represented Chelsea to the best of his abilities without making that 'extra' step up the ladder. Grant has played 22 times for Southend and has scored one goal. We also have a serious connection with Southend that goes back to the 70s. After a League Cup victory at Roots Hall where Chelsea won 1-0, Chelsea signed Southend's lanky centre-forward called Bill Garner. Bill went onto play 119 games for Chelsea, scoring 36 goals. Nowadays Bill is back at Southend working with the Roots Hall Youth set-up. My favourite memory of a Bill Garner goal was back in 1977 at Old Trafford. I travelled up in my mates Cortina and the game was delayed for 30 minutes because of Manchester's Lord Mayor Show. After 90 secs, lanky Bill rose head and shoulders above everybody else, to put Chelsea 1-0 up. The rest of the game, United battered us but we came away with the points, That game was my first appreciation of what it was like to be in the 'away' end when Chelsea scored at the end you were supporting the Blues from. It was mental LOL LOL!! As for Chelsea team news, Scolari announced today that Drogba will play, so will Carlo. JT serves the last game of his suspension. Ballack is suspended and Bossie is struggling with an injury. Mancienne as we know was recalled back from Wolves and he is in the squad along with 17 yr old Jeffrey Bruma, another centre-half and 19 yr old Lee Sawyer a fiery midlfielder, who spent time with Southend this season is also in the squad. There we have it. Chelsea v Southend United, its the FA Cup and anything can happen! COME ON CHELSEA
