Interestingly, Crofts’ goal, the ninth of his Gillingham career, was his eighth header for the club. A remarkable statistic for a player who stands at just 5’ 9”.

This was to be Gillingham’s last game of January, a costly month in which the side only clocked up one win, more or less dashing any thoughts of a play off place.

Bas Savage left the club for Brighton after rejecting a new contract from the Gills. It seemed that Savage was beginning to fulfil his potential at the club and most fans were sad to see him leave. The lightweight pairing of McDonald and Ndumbu-Nsungu yields little, and the Gills will need to re-create the same pace and power that Savage brought.

Sadly, Alan Pouton was forced into an early retirement. The Geordie was blighted with injury during his stay at Gillingham and never really got the chance to shine in the first team.

The Gills faced another trip north to Huddersfield, with the proud record of having never lost at the Galpharm Stadium. This record was left in tatters as the Terriers ran riot in the first 10 minutes and were 2-0 up at the break.

Gary Mulligan scored his 9^th of the season- the hard working Irishman heading in, but it was Huddersfield who had the last laugh, as Booth netted his second to give the Yorkshiremen a comfortable 3-1 victory.

It was back to Priestfield today (10^th February) and a home win against Bradford was a perfect way to start a new leaf after a dismal run. Leon Johnson scored in first half injury time, nodding down at the near post.

The game was far from perfect, Jarvis looked off form, Ndumbu-Nsungu lightweight and Dean McDonald was at best inept. Although only eight points off of sixth, most Gillingham fans are looking nervously over their shoulder.

Four more wins would see us safe, but can anyone see who will score consistently? Mulligan, our top scorer limped off injured at half time leaving the Gills with two strikers who seem a division below ours.

Is it time to bring in Frannie Collin? He has looked bright whenever he has played and is certainly very quick, sharp and seems a quality finisher. More than what can be said for the new recruits from Ipswich and Cardiff.
