Gillingham are still trying to sign Swansea's Adebayo Akinfenwa according to reports. Gillingham tried to sign Adebayo Akinfenwa permenently on deadline day and on loan before deadline day. But a previous row between the two chairman after the Sancho saga looked to have made an agreement unlikely.
But the Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has warned the Gills that Adebayo Akinfenwa isn't going anywhere. The Swansea chairman said, "One of them was Gillingham and I spoke to their chairman (Scally) about him. I think they were just testing the water and we would not be keen for them to make a loan bid. But if something happens then we will have to deal with it.'
" We don't want him to go on loan to Gillingham or any other club," he said. "We need competition for places and I think most people would agree that Akinfenwa has done very well off the bench in the past couple of game and might now get a run in the side. It's very unlikely that anything will be happening and we're happy to go with what we've got."
Gillingham were hoping to add to their strike force but it doesn't look like any deals shall be done with Swansea. It was strange that the Gills chairman even started negotiations with the Welsh side having claimed after the saga of Brent Sancho that he wouldn't do anymore deals with the Welsh outfit.
