We have all the views of Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson after the usual Thursday news conference. Ronnie talks about his youngsters and his views on the defeat to Brighton. We also hear about Ronnie's views on the two goals to won victory over Huddersfield.

Speaking about the controversial defeat to Brighton Ronnie said, "The hardest thing in football is to score goals, and we had numerous chances the other night, but it isn't just the strikers, I've got Andy Crofts, I need goals from him, from Michael Flynn, I need goals from wide areas, from Bentley, from Jarvis, and the amount of corners and set pieces we are getting, I'll expect my centre halves to get on the end of them, and we need goals from throughout the team.

"The other night we had opportunities, but it wasn't through the lack of trying or missing them on purpose, the nice thing is that the first away game we were creating chances, so for me as a manager I can take a lot of positives from that."

Ronnie then went on to talk about the Gills' finishing in front of goal. Against Huddersfield the Gills found the net twice but unfortunatly despite great chances the Gills failed to convert. Jepo said, "On the counter attacking we do, just seeing the chance of the night for Matty Jarvis, it was a great bit of counter attacking, all that was missing was the finishing, but I suppose I've got to give the 'keeper credit there, he stood up well and pulled off a great save from Matty. But the nice thing is that, with pace, we can mix it up with height, I want Flynny and Crofty to pass the ball more in midfield to open teams up, and, hopefully as the season progresses we'll get to where we want to be.

"If you want to be guaranteed 20 goals a season you have to go and pay about 15-20 grand a week and pay a few million on the transfer market! Every manager you speak to now in the league and the one below, and even some in the championship, everyone is after the striker guaranteeing them 20 goals.

"But I've got three lads, Nsungu, Mulligan and McDonald, and they're trying to learn the trade, so hopefully if we can show them and they've got the willingness, hopefully we can turn those players into goalscorers like Darren Byfield and people like that."

Then the Gills boss went on to talk about his midfield and how the are maturing quickly into established senior players. "I'm quite honest with my players, I had a bit of a chat with Crofty before the season, The other players in the past have gone now, I think it's up to the Crofts', Flynns and Jarvis' of this world to pick the mantle up now and take it on.

I think they've learned their trade, smashing lads to work with, absolutely fantastic, now they've got to come on now and show people what they're all about, and hopefully go on from here.

"I'm just trying to instil the belief in them, because I know they're good players, and I know they can make good players, but I think sometimes that has to come from within, and the sooner the penny drops, the better," Jepson said.

The Gills face Bradford on Saturday at Valley Parade.
