Arsenal's new signing Tomas Rosicky showed why Wenger paid £8m for his services as yesterday against the USA he scored two goals and completely terrorised the U.S defence.

Rosicky's style of play, balance, poise and trickery was reminisent of the style of ex Chelsea legend and wee winger Pat Nevin who completely had defenders at his mercy up and down the country back in the 80s.

Chelsea's No.1 Goalkeeper Petr Cech kept a clean sheet as the Czech Republic routed the U.S 3-0.

Michael Essien turned in a powerhouse performance in midfield for Ghana and was desperately unlucky to have finished up on the losing side as Ghana crashed 2-0 to Italy whose goals were scored by Pirlo and Iaquinta. With all the allegations of bribery and corruption engulfing the Italian FA, last night's game was a test of whether the Rossoneri were up for the World Cup.

On the evidence of last nights performance, it seems they are!

Everton's Tim Cahill scored two late goals as Australia, not only scoring their first ever goals in their World Cup finals history, beat Japan 3-1 despite going behind to an early strike. John Aloisi scored Australia's third as the Roos scored three times in the last seven minutes.

Last night Joe Cole agreed to sign a four year extension to his current contract.
