Finally the World's greatest Football tournament got under way on Friday afternoon with the host nation Germany beating Costa Rica 4-2 with Klose of Germany scoring two and Costa's (make a nice cup of coffee) Wanchope scoring a double as well.

The Germans first and fourth goals are already candidates for Goal of the Tournament.

And that ball. How light is that? Chelsea's Robert Huth and Michael Ballack were on the bench for the Germans. Judging by the touchline celebrations the supposed rift between Klinsman and Ballack looked done, dusted and buried.

In the second game of the day, Ecuador scored an unlikely 2-0 win against Poland which I am sure did not go down to well with Poland's large right-wing, left-wing hooligan element who have promised to make this World Cup the bloodiest and most violent ever.

After months of waiting England start their World Cup campaign this afternoon against Paraquay and we should expect the Chelsea contingent of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole to be in the starting eleven. Wayne Bridge should be on the bench as one of the substitutes.

Following that is Sweden v Trinidad & Tobago and the game that I am really looking forward to is the one between Argentina and Ivory Coast this evening. Its the game where Chelsea's strike force of Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba go head-to-head.

Guess which two will be swapping shirts after then?
