As well as getting the support of his own manager today, Didier Drogba also received (what some might say) unlikely and perhaps welcome support and backing from Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger.

Controversy has 'drogged,' sorry could not resist it - dogged the 'Drog' since the Fulham game.

Wenger said "Drogba is a bit under the spotlight at the moment for obvious reasons, but overall I like his attitude, basically. He is not an unfair player, basically.

"He makes sometimes more of it, like many strikers do as well, but sometimes he is maybe pushed or pulled when nobody sees it - defenders cheat on the strikers as well you know.

"What he got wrong maybe was on the handball when he scored the goal.

"But overall I do not think that you have to single out Drogba.

"I would like to say more generally in the game, you want to keep that thing out of the game."

Reacting on Everton's Alan Stubbs comments about 'Foreigners being responsible for introducing diving into our game,' Wenger said "I am not sure it is only a foreign thing.

"The asking for yellow cards to be given, yes, but with the diving I am not sure it is completely only continental."

Wenger continued: "I feel it is good thing to get the diving and the cheating out of the game.

"When you are the manager, sometimes you are not objective enough to talk about your own team, but overall when you love football, you can only support that the official bodies fight the diving.

"You cannot say it is good for football that [Diego] Maradona scores with his hand against England - you can never support that.

"I feel the responsibility is down to the official bodies to make sure justice is respected because diving is not right."

The Arsenal boss added: "Of course we have to take responsibility, the managers, the players, to keep the game as fair and clean as we can.

"When you know you can be punished when you cheat the rules, the players will be more reluctant to do it."

Jose came out and said the following about his underfire hit-man not only from the media but by large sections of the home fans, judging by the reaction when the 'Fans' Man of the Match was announced.

Jose said, "Sometimes he is a player who doesn't get what he deserves, Drogba is a fighter.

"It was a big thing, it was a very strong finger in the eye which was completely full of blood." Jose said referring to the finger in the eye and bearing in mind from my position in the ground, when Dids walked off around the pitch (behind the Matthew Harding Stand), the response he received was extremely favourable.

Jose continued, "Of course he is not blind but it was something serious. The referee saw it as an accident and I accept that.

"I am happy with Drogba. Players are not just about the skilful and beautiful ones who play for the stands.

"It's important to have players who fight for the team, work for the team, attack and defend.

"He's the kind of player I would say 'with you I could go to every war.' He is a very important player to us."
