Their team, costing a mere £15,000, put our team to shame in the first-half with a performance of grit, determination and enterprising football that has seen the U's fly-high at the top of League One, and look certain to achieve automatic promotion to the Championship. If the U's keep playing like they did yesterday, there is no reason to suspect any other outcome.

All they need is the 6,000 that turned up at The Bridge yesterday to turn-up at Layer Road each and every Saturday until the season ends. With a bit more luck, the U's could have been at least 2 goals up after Yeates had hit the post and Garcia sent a screamer just over the bar. Instead, for all their efforts they went in 1-1 after a Carvalho own goal and a 1st Chelsea goal for full-back Paulo Ferreira.

The second half was a different story. The Special One sent on the big guns - Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Hernan Crespo. As Colchester tired, Chelsea pressed on and two goals in the last twelve minutes from Joe Cole, saw Chelsea into the quarter-finals and drawn against Newcastle United at home.

Cole's first came from a tap-in after a Crespo shot which was parried by the unlucky and impressive Davidson in the Colchester goal. Coley's second right on time, was a delicious curler from 25 yards straight into the top left hand corner of Davidson's net.

If Chelsea play the same first-half against Barcelona as they did yesterday, the Catalans will rip us apart and if the 'so-called' fans continue to sit and watch, instead of singing, shouting and supporting the team, then Chelsea may as just play in an empty stadium.
