Chelsea Youth team’s first ever game in the Milk Cup, the biggest youth club competition in the world, finished in a 2-0 victory last night, Monday, in Northern Ireland.

Goals in either half from centre-half Michael Mancienne and centre-forward Scott Sinclair sealed it.

The first was a far post header from a great Ryan Bertrand corner. The second was an individual effort when Sinclair went past a couple of challenges and finished in the bottom corner.

Coach Brendan Rodgers said: "It was a terrific performance. We controlled the game against a hard working, committed Irish team. We just missed a lot of chances."

The score could have been far greater. Dean Furman and Lee Sawyer both hit the woodwork. Sawyer and Liam Bridcutt were also booked.

Particularly pleasing for Rodgers was the form of schoolboys Sawyer and goalkeeper Rhys Taylor, both looking comfortable against older boys.

Tonight, Tuesday, the team is in action again, this time against Feyenoord Youth.
