Eight successive Premiership victories - A new club record
Eight successive clean sheets - A new Premiership record
Hail Petr Cech - Goalkeeper Supreme
Man Utd and Arsenal remove your hats and pay homage to the 'New' King of Goalkeeping. A throne that you will take many years to regain. You have had your days with Schmeical and Seaman now move over and let your new King, Petr Cech take a bow. Long Live Petr. Petr Cech tonight became a record breaker by going 781 minutes in the Premiership without conceding a goal. So determined was Cech to remain unbeaten he even saved a 30th minute penalty from Paul Dickov after a dubious award by Ref Uriah Rennie when Ferreira and Birmingham Bad Boy Savage collided in the Chelsea penalty area. For Cech's troubles he also received a nasty kick in the chest from Dickov who followed up and in on Cech after he had collected the ball from the initial save. Chelsea were not in a game tonight, they were in a fight. If this game had been a boxing match especially in the first half, Chelsea would have been beaten on points and the contest awarded to Blackburn. Blackburn used every type of trick in the book to unsettle the Premiership leaders. The main instigators were Robbie Savage and Paul Dickov, camoed by some South African called Mokoewma who in the 1tth minute crudely forced the dangerous Arjen Robben to leave the field with an ankle injury that caused the Chelsea bench some major concern. Robben may have left the field early but he at least made a major contribution to this hard and physical clash, where in the 5th minute he scored the one and only goal of the game. Super Frank picked up a loose ball from the edge of the Chelsea penalty area, he fired a cross field pass which was flicked on by Eider into the path of Robben. Cutting in from the left Robben fired a super shot which dipped under the body of Freidl straight into the bottom corner, sending the travelling Chelsea fans into a state of delirum. Once Robben had gone off injured Chelsea struggled to make any further impact. Robben was sorely missed. Chelsea had to contend with in some cases an over physical approach by Blackburn who blatantly set about trying to unsettle the Premiership leaders. Apart from the dubious award of the penalty Blackburn were not an attacking force, they tired to kick their way through midfield, using Savage as the battering ram and when the ball did reach the nasty Dickov, who made himself a nusiance all night, until he was finally booked in the 61st minute, giving Terry a torrid time and at times there were moments where World War III would break out. Tonights ref Uriah Rennie, is not fit to referee a Sunday League game, let alone a high profile Premiership fixture. The quicker the Premier League remove this idiot from the list, the quicker the referee's performance averages will improve. After Graham Polls excellent performance last night, Rennie's performance this evening dragged the standard of referring back down into the gutter. It was not a classic, vintage Chelsea performace. This was a performance of heart, stamina, unity and belief. Belief that Chelsea CAN win the Premiership. Belief that Chelsea can go to places like Blackburn a nick a win. Belief that Chelsea CAN battle and still come away with three points. The celebrations of our beloved Jose Mourinho at the end showed how much of a battle Chelsea had to endure tonight. He even ordered the players to throw their shirts into the end where the travelling fans were.
