Speculation in one of this morning's tabloid newspaper claims an exclusive that Chelsea FC have tapped up Arsenal's Ashley Cole. According to reports last Thursday JM, PK, super agent Pini Zahavi met with Ashley Cole at the swish Royal Park Hotel in London's Lancaster Gate.
Cole it is reported has been offered a massive pay rise to join Chelsea. Currently he is on £27,000 per week and has been offered a staggering £90,000. It is illegal to hold talks with players without their clubs permission. Rule K£ states 'Any club which by itself, by any of its players, by its agent, by any other person on its behalf, makes an appoach either directly or indirectly to a contract player shall be in breach of these rules and may be dealt with under the provisions of Section R (disciplinary procedures' If this is the case Chelsea could well face a heavy fine or even the possibility of points deduction. If the latter and Chelsea lose the opportunity to win the Premiership title, I for one will be first inline to demand the resignation of Peter Kenyon. If these reports are true, fancy setting up a meeting in a public place knowing you run the risk of getting caught. A hotel worker confirmed that the meeting took place and the newspaper who has reported this story claim that they have a signed sworn affadavit from a 'football fan' who was passing at the time that JM, PK, AC and PZ were leaving the hotel. How ironic! David Dein Arsenal's Vice-Chairman commented, 'This is a very disturbing matter and we will deal with it very seriously.' Dein said that he would be interested in seeing the evidence obtained. Chelsea release their annual accounts tomorrow and it will show that Chelsea made a staggering loss of £87.8 million last season. Of course last season was the first full season under Roman Abramovich's control. With the amount of money that he had spent to get the club to the position that Chelsea are at today, it is hardly surprising that is such a huge deficit. The figures will also show that the club paid out a huge 107 per cent increase in players salaries at £115.5m Rumours about Steven Gerrard joining Chelsea will not go away. It is reported that Gerrard will join Chelsea in the Summer for £30m on a weekly wage of £120,000 per week (nice work if you can get it). Again Peter Kenyon has been involved and although it hasn't been suggested, lets hope PK went about it the right way this time. All the formalities have been agreed in principle and all that remains to be concluded is for Gerrard to pass his medical and accept and sign the contract that has been offered. Chance are this will all be completed by Gerrard's 25th birthday which is on May 30th.
