Just like London buses, Chelsea was caught in a jam in Copenhagen last night, despite taking the lead with a sweet and sublime Juan Mata finish. I had visions of a Tromso result to be honest, minus the snow of course and for the next forty-five minutes or so, the Danes, to their credit wouldn’t lie down, roll over and let Chelsea tickle their tums.
If it wasn’t for a superb Cechie boy save and a heroic Ashley Cole block from the follow-up, Nordsjaelland would have easily caused the shock of the group stages campaign.
With two tricky games coming up against the Ukrainians, this was a game Chelsea simply had to win and with Juve and Donetsk drawing their game, Chelsea sit proudly at the top of the group with four points and a +4 goal difference.
Too many people expect Chelsea to win EVERY game, very easily. They simply are living in dreamland, except if some of the people represent the Great British media – always waiting for the shock – always waiting to pillor and lampoon Chelsea.
Although the final result took it’s time to be acheived, the hacks will have to wait another day.
Can we play all of our games in midweek please? Two games, 10 goals… Nice.
And then the buses started to arrive as the game was put beyond all doubt when Luiz fizzed in a free-kick with eleven minutes. Mata then scored his second and then Ramires put the seal on a resounding victory, albeit difficult in it’s construction.
