There were other ditties of course…”Ashley Cole has won the European Cup!” was another (I can’t think why?!) and “Only one England Captain!” was always going to be sung after the laughable incompetence of the F.A. in finding John Terry guilty subsequently backed up by the clapping seal mentality of other football fans, armchairs and the media.

Great performance

It really was impossible to pick out a player that had a bad game for us and Di Matteo has to be applauded for the attitude instilled in the team of taking the initiative.  I must also say what a good game Mikel had yesterday.  He’s taken some heavy criticism on and off during the last few seasons although I have to admit, I won’t be surprised if he has another lapse period in the near future.  Mata and Torres shone and Hazard is already staking an early claim for player of the season.

All in all, it was a very satisfying lunchtimes work and I can only imagine how Gooners must have been seething as they left their shiny clone stadium (comfy seats – that were not used…and rather nice peppery meat pies though).

Fattened Cow?

Arsenal supporters must be already beginning to wonder what they are becoming – not in a football sense (it is early days and they could still have a say in what happens about this season’s title) but what the future holds for them.  The much lauded financial prudence that they have been so smug about has been unfortunately coupled with the continuous exit of their best players.  

I can’t help thinking that the Gooners are being taken as mugs by their board.  The club reminds me of a cow being fattened up for sale.  How long before the stuffed blazers and the yank finally sell out to Usmanov at a huge price?   All the profits will go to the board shareholders with Usmanov left to finally give the fans what they have been crying out for – investment in the team - Trouble is, how much money will he willing to invest after shelling out megabucks for Arsenal?

We are Chelsea!

“What we are…” (or rather what we are becoming) is a side that is going to be playing some truly delightful football BUT hopefully with the difference that we do so whilst actually winning the odd pot or two.  Don’t get me wrong – Chelsea “post-Drogba” is going to take some time, but as Ken Bates once said about a certain something, “The timing is uncertain, but the conclusion is inevitable”.
