John Terry A Major Doubt

Captain, Leader, Legend

Captain, Leader, Legend John Terry is major doubt for England’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday night after suffering a double whammy ankle injury in yesterday’s 5-0 rout of Moldova. First a kick, then a twist – hardly strictly come dancing. More worryingly JT could conceivably miss Chelsea’s league visit to QPR a week today.

Roy Hodgson said after the game, “I’d liked to have taken him off, and we did suggest we’d play with 10. He is a warrior though, so he poo-pooed the suggestion he should come off with 20 minutes to go.

“He took a kick on the ankle in the first half and then twisted it slightly when he landed in front of the bench in the second-half.

“It’s obviously not a very serious injury, but every knock is important with only three days between games.”

For the record, Super Frank scored twice for England including converting a 3rd minute penalty.

JT missed Chelsea’s embarrassing Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid last week due to serving a UEFA suspension and his absence on the pitch was taken to the fullest advantage by a rampant Madrid side with Chelsea target Falcao stealing all the headlines with a first-half hat-trick.

I have said for well over a year now that Chelsea need to start grooming the next ‘Captain, Leader, Legend for when JT hangs up his boots and while Petr Cech and Super Frank are quality players they are too quiet to take over the leadership role and after all Cechie Boy does have trouble communicating with his defence!

The U21’s played a friendly against Charlton at Cobham yesterday losing 3-2. Cesar Azpilicueta played the whole 90 minutes.

Both JT and Ashley Cole are OUT of the game against Ukraine.
