The curse of the Carling Cup penalty shoot-out struck again at Ewood Park last night when Chelsea crashed out of the competition, 4-3. Three times now Chelsea have lost a shoot-out in this competition in recent years - Burnley last year and Charlton Athletic a couple of years before.

I have to admit I didn't expect anything else but a Chelsea win last night, but when I saw the back-four that Boss 'Anco' had selected, my mind quickly changed.

Never in a million years is Paulo Ferreira a centre-back. No disrespect to Paulo he is the complete professional, but he isn't a right midfielder either as 'The Special One' found out to his cost in the FA Cup Semi-Final against the Bin-Dippers a couple of years ago at Old Trafford.

But it was Paulo who scrambled Chelsea's equaliser seconds from the end of normal-time, after Rovers were 3-2 up, after Chelsea went 2-1 up within ten minutes of the second-half resuming through Didier and Salomon Kalou. This after Kalinic gave Rovers an early lead.

At half-time 'Anco' played all his cards at once by introducing Jeffrey Bruma, Didier Drogba and Gael Kakuta to freshen things up, but his plan backfired when Kalou was forced off with a torn thigh muscle leaving Chelsea playing the rest of the game with only ten men.

In that respect Chelsea did well to push the game into extra-time and Kalou today has been ruled out for two weeks.
