Ancelotti after Roma’s Mexes to replace Carvalho?

Reports have been coming in that Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign Roma defender Philippe Mexes to replace Ricardo Carvalho. Mexes, 27, whom Ancelotti had tried to sign on various occasions for Milan, is recognised as one of the best central defenders in Serie A. The bid is supposed to be around £12m bid for the Frenchman.

Mexes has stated that he will not leave Roma and the club deem him “unsellable” - whether a move to Chelsea would change his mind remains to be seen but bear in mind that Roma are also very much in financial dire straits.

All very well I suppose and if Carvalho is more injury prone these days then it makes sense to replace him whilst we can still get a reasonable fee for him – but where does this leave Mancienne or other youth players that want to come through?

There is an argument that we don’t have anyone quite ready yet although Mancienne certainly seems to have crossed that doubt-line.

Mancienne´s favourite position is centre-back although he can play as a holding midfielder.  We also have Ivanovic and Alex to partner Terry.  Will one of these leave in the summer then?  Should Mancienne be loaned to Everton then I very much doubt it.

Meanwhile, Marco Branca, the Inter director of sport, is reportedly already in London negotiating fees for Carvalho and Deco.

mexes is ok. he gave cr7 of manu a difficult task in uefa champions league. robben from nigeria
