Barcelona 0-0 Chelsea: Are You Up For The 2nd Leg. I AM!!

BRILLIANT SON

By Since66

We didn't score in the Nou Camp as I thought we would, but we didn't concede as I thought we would. In fact we did quite a good job on the Three Musketeers and became the first team this season to stop Barcelona from scoring at the Nou Camp. 'Quite a good job' on the Three Musketeers? Actually it was a brilliant job.

Terry was magnificent, a true leader of men, Alex was a capable lieutenant, Bosingwa and Ivanovic were perfect foils, but the man of the match was 'keeper Peter Cech.

cech barca 2

Cech who saved a penalty at West Ham at the weekend, defied the Catalans on four different occasions and if Drogba or Ballack had scored with their chances, the night would have got a whole lot better.

But as usual Chelsea didn't receive the credit they deserved for such a resilient and physical performance.

cech barca 3

Guardiola, Barca's coach, bemoaned Chelsea's lack of intent. He said "Only one team was trying to play attacking football and the referee should have taken that into account. We weren't out there shoving players or making poor challenges."

Anything to say about Alves rolling and writhing around every time he got tackled, then getting up and running about when the ref took no notice? NO. I didn't think so.

What about YaYa Toure getting himself booked after harrassing the ref. Anything to say? NO. I didn't think so.

We all know Barca 'are supposed to be the best team in Europe,' but like all teams that are blinkered with the 'beautiful football tag,' THEY DON'T LIKE IT UP 'EM and if you are going to Stamford Bridge next Wednesday and you aren't up for it - then don't bother turning up!!

Hiddink hailed Cech. He said, "Petr did a good job and saved the game for us.

"Jose Bosingwa also did a good job. He got good help from Florent Malouda on the left side and also, when Lionel Messi went inside, got good support from John Terry in the centre.

"They managed to keep Messi very much in control. Mentally my team has a lot of courage and a lot of blood that they want to sacrifice. Mentally we are a tough team.

"We are pleased with the result. This is the first time they've not scored in a home game this season. So it's quite an achievement against a beautiful team who can play beautuful football.

"Nowadays there's no big advantage home or away, so nothing is decided yet."

Well I got it wrong - thought there would be at least 3-4 goals in the match and the ref would stich us up!

We are coming in for mixed criticism on our tactics - some say parking the bus was a disservice to football whilst others praise our resilience (although I don´t remember somuch criticism directed towards Man Utd when they drew 0-0 in a bore draw). With our best full-back suspended who would have marked their best player and the subsequent re-shuffle resulting in losing our right-back to switch to left-back and then Carvalho injured perhaps we didn´t have much choice.

Hiddink could have pulled off a master-stroke should Drogba have scored but 0-0 is probably a result that we would have settled for beforehand.

The Guardiola quote....

"Only one team was trying to play attacking football and the referee should have taken that into account. We weren't out there shoving players or making poor challenges."

...shows him to be a complete idiot doesn´t it?!

Referee was very lenient with Ballack, Puyol and Alves - all could have gone.

We will have to win at the Bridge of course - BUT now it´s their turn - if they are as good as people say they are then lets see how they do away from home with important defenders (Puyol and Marquez) missing.

"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.
