In the wake of our 4-1 victory away to Southend, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard have come out in support of their manager. Big Phil Scolari has come in for some fairly intense media speculation over the security of his position due to a poor run of results and claims that he has also lost the dressing room.

Left-back Ashley Cole said:

“A lot of people were trying to blame the manager — which was wrong. We were the ones letting down the fans and the manager. We have let players go and conceded goals.

“We have to get rid of the mistakes if we are to push on and win more.”

The mistakes include uncharacteristic defensive c.ock-ups which have cost us dearly against the likes of Bordeaux, Fulham, Southend, Man Utd…and Southend again on Wednesday. 

Chelsea, once notorious for a solid, well drilled defence have been a shadow of our former selves recently and the consequent slip down the table has brought the usual media pressure to bear on Big Phil.

 

Didier Drogba has come under fire from the media who claim that he has been read the riot act by Scolari, “dropped” and “forced” to train with the reserves.  There could be something in it – there could not be.  Difficult to tell as we don’t know if Scolari merely wanted to give playing time to Anelka and possibly Di Santo and Drogba (like any other player not travelling with the squad on Wednesday) would have had to train with the reserves anyway.

The media also claim that Carvalho is at odds with Scolari over disagreements with regard to a new zonal marking system for set pieces – Carvalho also didn’t travel with the squad to Southend. 

We know that Scolari´s reputation is that of a tough nut with his squads if and when needed and it’s true that the Drogba and Carvalho stories have appeared after the Brazilian told the media that his team were at around 35% of what should be their performance.  We should get a clearer picture during this weekend and the forthcoming weeks if there really is a rift developing between Scolari and some of his players.

 

Chelsea vice-captain Lampard played down the media claims but also said that players shouldn’t start throwing their toys out the pram:

“The manager going public with his criticism is not a problem.

“If you want to cry just because the manager says you are playing below par, you need to look at yourself. We are all men and just have to accept it.”  

“The manager did not pick on anyone in particular and we all have bad patches. What is important is we stay strong and show a team ethic.”

Exactly!

Defence at set-pieces still worries me (apart from all the media hullabalu) and there´s probably not a better team to test ourselves against in that sense than Stoke.

carvalo dint travel with sqaud...did he get himself there then.that suggests unrest in sqaud not with phil..imo

Carvalho didn´t play Claret.

He was not in the squad.

He also trained with the reserves.
